The Jack Douglas Award
The Jack Douglas Award is given annually by Texas APME to an individual for distinguished service to the group and for outstanding contributions to journalism in the state. Texas APME is the largest organization of editors in Texas and is believed to be the largest and most active AP state organization in the nation.
Texas APME began in 1929 and James R. Record of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram was its founding president. He served in that capacity until 1950, when the organization began electing presidents for one-year terms.
The Jack Douglas Award was established and first offered in 1997 in the name of the late Douglas, former managing editor of the Star-Telegram, whose contributions to Texas APME included creation of its sweepstakes awards program honoring the best journalism in the state each year.
